This Morning viewers rage over ‘insensitive’ paramedic filming segment: ‘New lows’

The North West Ambulance Service allowed Dr Ranj Singh exclusive access to an emergency service shift.

However, the first call-out was for an elderly woman called Elizabeth who was suffering from a cardiac arrest.

When the team arrived, her heart had stopped and received instant CPR to get it going again.

Although the paramedics managed to restart her heart, Elizabeth sadly passed away when she got to hospital.

Just after that, Dr Ranj filmed an interview with her relatives, starting: “I’m terribly sorry for your loss and I know that everything that has happened this morning has been such a shock.”

Elizabeth’s daughter commented: “We never expected this this morning and we would like to thanks the team that helped.”

Her husband added: “The people that helped were so polite and so helpful.

“Absolutely first class,” he told Dr Ranj.

Viewers were not happy about the segment, believing it to be “insensitive”, and flocked to Twitter in outrage.

One posted: “Such a touchy topic why would you broadcast all this on national tv.”

A second added: “Erm – would you really want to be on #thismorning at this sad time?”

A third raged: “‘I’m terribly sorry for your loss…’…but I’m going to stick a camera in your face and broadcast to the nation anyway.”

However, others praised This Morning for shedding light on the difficulties that paramedics face at the moment.

One defended: “Watching ‘A Day in the Life of a Paramedic’ so so much respect for their service and dedication. One of my best friends Amy is a paramedic and gosh, she works so hard and such long hours.”

Another commented: “The things that our emergency services go through daily are unbelievable. They are all amazing heroes in my opinion, and they really don’t get enough credit at all. They receive abuse daily and something needs to change!”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10.30am.
