There is nothing worse than walking along a beach strewn with rubbish.
For any traveller looking for the perfect beach break in the UK this May bank holiday, then all has been revealed over which are the cleanest beaches.
Keep Britain Tidy researched all of the beaches throughout the UK to celebrate 30 years of monitoring them all.
Only the cleanest and the safest beach is then awarded a Blue Flag, which also means it gets high environmental standards both on land and in the water.
Cornwall boasted the highest amount of winning beaches with seven Blue Flag beaches including Porthminster and Trevone Bay.
Popular beaches at Whitby and Blackpool also made the list, as did Bournemouth and Brighton which is great news for holidayers this bank holiday weekend.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton commented on the proud results.
“It is great news for holiday-makers, overseas visitors and businesses that rely on coastal tourism that we have been able to award so many flags this year. “
However, it has recently emerged that 20 beaches failed to be found safe to swim in the UK according to European Environmental Agency.
They were only beaten to the bottom by Ireland who had a higher proportion of dirty beaches.
Whilst 96.4 per cent showed to be safe to swim in, some beaches including at Scarborough South Bay, North Yorkshire and Burnham Jetty North, Somerset.
To be regarded as unsafe, the samples taken include levels of sewage and animal contamination.
