The One Show presenters Matt Baker and Angellica Bell were on the sofa this evening with another edition of the BBC show.
Joining them on the show were actors Elizabeth McGovern and Matthew Broderick who were promoting their new play The Starry Messenger.
Matt got the interview off to a funny start by revealing when he was a child his classmates gave him the nickname ‘Ferris,’ because he looked similar to Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
However, when a new series of VTs called In Bed With Britain was introduced, the interview became slightly awkward.
Angellica explained that the clip would reveal what a number of couples discuss just before they go to sleep.
After the VT was shown, Matt then asked Elizabeth: “You’re both married to people in the industry, do you talk shop a lot? Your husband is a director, isn’t he?”
Finding the question uncomfortable, Elizabeth simply replied: “He’s a director,” leading to an awkward laugh by Angellica.
But Matt didn’t give up and said: “Do you have a television in the bedroom?” to which Elizabeth replied: “No, god forbid we have a camera, like those guys.”
Angellica jumped in remarking: “You were quite surprised by that, weren’t you?”
Elizabeth went on to explain she wouldn’t be comfortable having a camera in her home but she agreed that it can be entertaining watching those who do.
Viewers watching at home took to Twitter to comment on the awkward exchange.
One said: “#TheOneShow Awkward!!” and another wrote: “Really awkward viewing.. #theoneshow.”
A third tweeted: “It’s not hard, the host asks you a question and you answer it! #TheOneShow Lady Granthams lost her tongue.”
But some viewers agreed with the actors and remarked on the unusual series introduced on the show.
“Oh my God this is excruciating. Ask them about their play for heaven’s sake #TheOneShow,” said one fan.
Another added: “Slightly weird item. #TheOneShow The Americans can’t fathom what’s going on, and I don’t blame ‘em.”
A third remarked: “Loving Matthew Broderick on @BBCTheOneShow he’s a really funny guy! #theoneshow.”
Earlier this week, Matt and Angellica were forced to apologise for a technical error when the wrong VT was played.
Angellica introduced a clip that should have focused on a community who had begun selling and giving away items of clothing and food for families from a shipping container.
Instead, the show’s Michael Douglas began narrating a VT which was titled: “Aliens on the A70.”
The presenting duo could be heard giggling at the mistake before they apologised and the correct clip was shown.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
