The second instalment of the series – set in 1960s Aden – saw the Royal Military Police go on a mission to take down insurgents in the area.
Many people took to social media to hail the drama for tackling such gritty material so well.
One person posted on Twitter: ” #TheLastPost powerful but harrowing. Stephen Campbell Moore fan also loved #achildintime sad too. Now need a dose of heartwarming #OurZoo.”

A third viewer added: “Loving #TheLastPost on #BBC, #gripping stuff and something decent to watch on a Sunday evening.”
The praise comes as this evening’s episode showed the mission as well as a tandem SAS operation taking place to capture the men responsible for Nick Page’s (played by Joseph Kennedy) death last week.
However, both missions went awry when the British soldiers were ambushed and shot dead as they tried to defend themselves.
One member of the SAS, Chris Dimarco (Paul Tinto) was even captured and later revealed to have been beheaded in a particularly grisly moment.
In an act of loyalty, one of his comrades risked their own life and limb to retrieve the severed head and take it back to his family.
Meanwhile, gin-soaked army wife Alison Laithwaite (Jessica Raine) continued on her downward spiral of self-loathing and grief as she came to terms with the death of her lover.
She also began to corrupt new army wife Honor Martin (Jessie Buckley) who’d recently arrived in Aden with her husband Joe (Jeremy Neumark Jones).
