From blue water to shimmering white beaches, holidaymakers have a habit of searching for the most idyllic islands before booking.
With the prospect of summer just around the corner, that well-deserved beach holiday no longer seems like a distant possibility.
To help those who are still trying to decide which holiday hotspot will be ticked off the list this year, Islands.com have announced the five most popular islands.
Taking into account how many manual searches each island, received, they have revealed their top five.
Rebecca Kinnear, editor of Islands.com explained how the priorities of island holidaymakers have changed in recent years with “quick and easy” hitting home as a top priority.
“Most of the top destinations our audience was searching were quick and easy Caribbean islands,” says Rachel.
“They don’t want to have to plan too much; they just want to be on a beach with a cocktail ASAP. Each island offers direct flights from many major cities, all-inclusive hotel options, and the kind of Caribbean beaches you dream of when it’s dark and cold.”
Taking the top spot is the small yet mighty Bora Bora.
This South Pacific island is surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and protected coral reef making it popular amongst scuba divers.
Islands.com editor Rebecca Kinnear explained:”It makes sense that people would be daydreaming about Bora Bora in dreary January. It’s the bucket-list destination and for good reason. Two words: overwater bungalows.”
The Dominican Republic slots in behind Bora Bora as the second most searched for island.
The Caribbean is renowned for its beaches, resorts and golf facilities – so its no surprise the Dominican Republic is popular amongst activity seekers.
Aruba is third on the list. Its situation outside of the hurricane belt helps the islands popularity score as it’s available to visit all year round.
Jamaica follows and is loved for its lush mountains, thriving diversity, and breathtaking beaches. Hosting a vast number of luxury, all-inclusive resorts, it’s no surprise Jamaica has made the top five.
Finally, Turks and Caicos, an archipelago famed for its low-lying coral islands and stunning sea views comes in at number five.
