Thai man kills baby daughter live on Facebook before committing suicide

A man broadcast the killing of his 11-month-old daughter on Facebook Live, before taking his own life in a resort town of Phuket, Thai police says. Around 24 hours passed before Facebook took down graphic videos of the murder on request of the digital economy ministry.

The 20-year-old man, identified as Wuttisan Wongtalay, posted footage of him tying a rope to the neck of his daughter Natalie, wearing a pink dress, according to Reuters’ description. He then dropped the baby off the rooftop of a deserted hotel.

Wuttisan didn’t film suicide, but he presumably hung himself. Police officers, who arrived at the scene, found his body hanging next to the toddler’s, as well as a smartphone propped up against a wall, Lieutenant Jullaus Suvannin told AFP.

Police claim the man was obsessed with fears of his wife Jiranuch Triratana, the mother of a killed child, leaving him.

“He was having paranoia about his wife leaving him and not loving him,” Jullaus told Reuters.

Two clips of the killing were available online for nearly 24 hours. They were taken down after Ministry of digital economy contacted Facebook to remove them after receiving a police request.

A gruesome murder comes almost a week after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted “a lot more” needed to be done to prevent murder videos from appearing on the social network. His statement came after the graphic murder of 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. Stephens was broadcast by Ohio man Steve Stephens in a live video on Facebook.

The man shared three videos of himself, first revealing his intentions, then showing the killing and finally confessing to it, as well as claiming responsibility for 14 other murders. The footage containing the murder had been up on the site for more than an hour and 45 minutes before it was reported and taken down.
