Honoured, widower whose poem inspired Esther to start helpline

A WIDOWER whose tear-jerking poem about loneliness inspired Dame Esther Rantzen to help millions in the same boat has been crowned citizen of the year. War hero Bob Lowe was given the honour in recognition of his charity work, which includes volunteering for The Silver Line, a round-the-clock helpline for isolated older people.
