Super Mario Odyssey NEWS: Nintendo Switch game ISN'T hiding this sinister secret

An interesting Super Mario Odyssey secret has been revealed by Nintendo.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch game includes a new ability in which Mario can take control of objects, enemies and other characters by throwing his hat at them.

This includes taking over Bullet Bills to travel over large gaps, and becoming a Cheep Cheep to swim underwater.

Slightly more worrying is Mario’s ability to take over human characters.

However, after one fan suggested that Nintendo was possessing other humans, the company stepped in to put the rather sinister rumour to rest.

“Um, actually he’s been “Captured” by Mario,” reads the Nintendo tweet.

Phew, glad that’s been cleared up…

During Nintendo’s E3 presentation it was revealed that the game would have an October 27 release date on Nintendo Switch.

It was also revealed that the Nintendo Switch release contains a special NES surprise for fans of Mario Bros.

During a recent hands-on with the game, it was revealed that levels will be filled with 2D sections when players enter special pipes.

As Mario merges with the wall, players must guide him to the exit, all the while avoiding Bullet Bills, stomping Goombas and collecting coins in classic 2D gameplay.

It’s very similar to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which saw Link solve puzzles and reach secret areas by shuffling along walls.

Another nod to the past involves Pauline from the original Donkey Kong.

Since escaping from Donkey Kong’s clutches, Pauline has become mayor of New Donk City, and gives Mario a mission to find musicians to play a club.

It’s unclear how big a part Pauline will play in the new game, but with Nintendo including 2D sections and the world containing a number of skyscrapers, perhaps we’ll see a Donkey Kong/King Kong homage at some point in the game.

Either way, Super Mario Odyssey is shaping up to be this year’s must-have  game.
