Sunday Brunch MAYHEM: Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer shocked as KNIFE flies across kitchen

Hosts Tim Lovejoy, 49, and Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Simon Rimmer, 54, were left speechless after a potentially disastrous accident in the studio during today’s show.

The Channel 4 favourites were joined by writer and actress Helen Monks to help whip up a delicious-looking dish of Szechuan aubergine.

Tim was in the middle of asking Helen about her theatre work when the incident occurred, with The Last Kingdom star saying: “I co-run a theatre company and we make mostly verbatim plays.

“We record people’s stories and then we edit them into plays that we tour round,” she continued, going on to explain the meaning of documentary plays, saying: “It’s like docudramas that you see on TV but instead of being on TV it’s on the stage.

“We get actors to say the words but it’s always real life stories,” Helen added, before a loud clatter cut her off mid-sentence.

Gasping in shock, she exclaimed: “Did a knife just fly across the kitchen?!”

A stunned silence fell over the studio before Tim replied shiftily: “Nooo…”

The guests and crew burst into giggles as the shot panned to a large kitchen knife lying on the floor in front of Simon’s cooker while the chef looked decidedly guilty.

Luckily Simon’s slip-up didn’t end in tears, and the offending utensil was quickly returned to a safe place as the duo continued with the show.

“He was just so excited by the documentary theatre,” Helen joked.

Sunday Brunch continues next Sunday at 9.30am on Channel 4.
