Strictly Come Dancing’s Gemma Atkinson takes swipe at Simon Rimmer amid romance rumours

Gemma, 33, appeared on Sunday Brunch this morning to discuss the upcoming Strictly tour which is aset to launch in Birmingham next week.

The blonde-beauty was stunned as she wondered how Simon balanced his dancing duties with his presenting role on Channel 4

Sunday Brunch co-host Tim Lovejoy, 49, joked that he “had a bad back from carrying” his colleague throughout the stint and the pair erupted in fits of laughter.

However, it was Gemma who got the punchline, adding that Simon’s professional partner, Karen Clifton, had a sore back from doing the same thing.

The laughs didn’t stop there, as the Strictly Come Dancing finalist couldn’t hold herself back from gushing about her incredibly long time on the show.

Simon, 54, clearly had a bad case of jealously as he sat in a sulk listening to Gemma’s stories.

Gemma joked: “Oh Blackpool was brilliant… You got to dress up as Buzz Lightyear though.”

Downbeat Simon could only muster a small: “I hated that – that was my least favourite.”

This comes as the pair have been surrounded by romance rumours since the BBC show ended.

The host found himself at the centre of “fling” claims with Gemma after he posted a snap of the pair on his Instagram account last year.

Despite any reports of the Strictly “curse” striking again, the pair have insisted they are just good friends.

At the time Simon said: “Gemma is like a daughter to me and has become a friend of all my family. I think it’s funny.”

What’s more, their fellow contestant Chizzy Akudolu blasted the rumours, telling The Sun that it would never happen.

She insisted: “No, impossible. Absolutely impossible. They are so close, I don’t believe that for a minute.

“Not the way he talked about her, he talked about her like she was his daughter, I don’t believe it for one minute.”

Sunday Brunch airs each Sunday on Channel 4 at 9.30am.
