Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Judges’ scoring secret REVEALED amid first live show

According to recent research, women competing on the dancing programme will be scored higher than the men by the panel.

“There is evidence that the judges tend to give slightly higher scores to female celebrities, but it’s not enough to influence who gets to the dance-off or indeed who wins the competition, which has been won eight times by men and six times by women,” says a study by the BBC’s Reality Check team, which took figures from fan site Ultimately Strictly.

Their statistical analysis also found that out of all the judges, unsurprisingly Craig Revel Horwood was the hardest to please when it came to scoring.

Over the past 14 series, he has awarded a total of  51 perfect 10 scores to contestants, which is only a quarter of fellow judge Bruno Tonioli’s number which comes in at 203.

Former head judge Len Goodman awarded 158 during his time on the programme until retiring at the end of last year.

Although Craig, 52, is harder to please than the rest of the panel, a 10 from him statistically means that you are almost certain to be guaranteed a place in the final.

He is also unlikely to give out 10s early on in the competition and saves it for later on in the competition, in series one and three he didn’t give a single perfect score.

Last year saw him dish out at the most 10s with a whopping eight, his previous total of perfect scores in a series was six.

The figures come amid last night’s first Strictly Come Dancing last show of the year as Aston Merrygold and partner Janette Manrara topped the leaderboard with an impressive 31 points.

Just behind them in second place was Debbie McGee with her partner Giovanni Pernice with a score of 30.
