The ex-Emmerdale actress, 32, who dressed as a jungle cat, revealed that the BBC takes careful steps to prevent wardrobe malfunctions by securing the glittery outfi ts of all dancers.
She said: “The wardrobe department makes you feel as safe as possible.
“There will be no mishaps, hopefully.”
Gemma rehearsed eight hours a day for last night’s fast-paced performance with professional dance partner Aljaz Skorjenic to The Bare Necessities song from Disney’s Jungle Book film.
Comedian Brian Conley, 56, and Amy Dowden, 26, took inspiration from the Wizard Of Oz, as the 14 couples danced to themes from the movies.
Gemma said all of the dancers had been nervous before the show and told of her accident in a training session last week.
She said: “We tried a lift for the first time and it didn’t go to plan. Thankfully it was nothing serious.
“He [Aljaz] dropped me, I hit my head but we got up and had a laugh about it.”
She also laughed off rumours about her private life after being linked to Spanish pro dancer Gorka Marquez, 27, who is partnering singer Alexandra Burke.
“It’s nice to find out on television or in the papers who I’m dating.
“You’ve got to take everything with a pinch of salt. I’m used to it,” she joked.
