Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Gemma Atkinson wades into CURSE debate – 'It's MORTIFYING'

The so-called “curse” of Strictly has been lurking over the dancing show and teases that contestants and their partners become romantically involved after weeks of training.

The 32-year-old spoke at a press event ahead of the BBC show’s launch this evening and explained what she has found “mortifying” about the training process.

The former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star admitted: “I guess that’s what it is about the curse – you have to dance sexually and that.

“It’s so mortifying actually – they got us in a room together and we had to dance with the partners, every single one, and you just have to dance with them, have body contact with them, that you’ve just met.

“It’s mortifying. It’s like having to kiss one of your mates on Emmerdale – it’s horrible but then it looks nice on screen,” she gushed.

Currently a radio presenter, Gemma has admitted that her aim is to get to the famous Blackpool round when the show kicks off properly later this month.

The blonde bombshell also admitted that she felt “snide” lying to her family, adding: “My mum obviously know and Mike at the radio [station].

“My aunt and uncle emailed me saying they’d had Google alerts and I’m sorry for lying!”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One at 7pm.
