Strictly Come Dancing 2017: ‘Amazing’ Debbie McGee WILL win, hints Simon Rimmer

Despite getting knocked out of the competition this evening, the Sunday Brunch chef, 54, hinted that Debbie, 58, could go all the way on the BBC series.

Speaking to host Tess Daly after his elimination, he was asked who he thought would win this year’s competition leading him to suggest Debbie.

He explained: “That’s a tricky one. If I’m biased then my two surrogate daughters Gemma [Atkinson] and Mollie [King] would be right at the top of my list because they’re the ones I look out for.”

Simon went on to say: “But there’s so many brilliant dancers, it’s impossible to say.

“Debbie McGee is surprising all of us every week – amazing.”

Reflecting on the show in general, Simon explained: “Do you know, it has been the most amazing experience ever, you know, from the minute I walked in through the door.

“The Strictly experience is just so positive, every single person involved in it is so positive. And like, all of that lot up there, all the rest of the class of 2017, are just magnificent people. All the pro dancers are amazing.”

His words come as Debbie topped the leaderboard for a second week in a row with professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice after they performed a Charleston to Frankie by Sister Sledge.

The bookmakers have now slashed her odds to claim victory on the dance floor with a 5-1 chance.

In fact, head judge Shirley Ballas was so impressed with Debbie that she bestowed her “queen of Latin” crown on the former magician’s assistant.

Debbie was asked to approach the judges’ table as Shirley pretended to place a crown on her head and had nothing but praise for the star.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One next Saturday at 6.50pm.
