Star Wars 9 SHOCK ‘Truth of Rey’s parents is STILL OPEN’ says The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson

WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI AHEAD

Following the release of The Force Awakens in 2015, there were two years of fans speculating over just who Rey’s parents are.

Then over Christmas The Last Jedi was released and Kylo Ren revealed to Rey that her mum and dad were in fact nobodies.

The news left some fans angry, as they were hoping she would be a Skywalker.

However, Johnson, who wrote and directed The Last Jedi has confirmed Kylo Ren’s claim may not be the final say on Rey’s parents.

Speaking with the Huffington Post, Johnson said: “Anything’s still open, and I’m not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it.”

This makes sense seeing as Johnson wrote The Last Jedi while Abrams was filming The Force Awakens.

Fans might expect Disney and Lucasfilm to have a narrative plan for the whole trilogy, but actually Johnson was given freedom to do as he pleased with where Abrams got to.

The result was a very different and bold movie compared to The Force Awakens – for better or worse, fans are polarised – but could Abrams change what Johnson revealed in Episode IX?

For example, Kylo Ren could be lying, if Abrams and his co-writer decide to go that route.

Perhaps they’ll even resurrect Snoke somehow, following the big fan backlash.

Star Wars Episode IX will be released in UK cinemas on December 20, 2019.
