It’s one of the biggest questions left by Star Wars The Force Awakens two years ago: Who are Rey’s parents?
Some of the more popular options include Luke or Han and Leia. However another option is the idea that she was immaculately conceived as a messianic figure.
Now in a new interview for Star Wars The Last Jedi, Rey actress Ridley has debunked that theory and spoken out on others.
Asked by Screen Rant if she’d read any fan theories, she said: “I mean, I’ve read a fan theory about Immaculate Conception.”
Ridley continued: “In fact, that was the only one that I read because someone directed me toward it and I was like you should get to work. Immaculate Conception.
“Then someone told me that I was actually Snoke or something or other, and it was time travel and I do think it’s hilarious that there’s this like great character and everyone was trying to attribute it to another character.”
When asked about the theory that she was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s granddaughter, she added: “Oh. Oh. Oh. I dunno. The only one I read is about Immaculate Conception so technically I’ve never read a real one.”
Last week Ridley spoke out on if Rey would turn to the Dark Side in The Last Jedi.
Appearing on Good Morning America, the actress replied: “Do you know, I think the thing about this film is it’s not so…the lines are less clear as to, like, good and bad.
“Rey is trying to find out about herself and about the universe, and those questions don’t entirely fall to the good, nor do they entirely fall to the bad.
“She’s trying to do her own sort of personal growth. And I think what’s amazing is, at the end of the film – however that does end – it’s more rich.”
Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
