Many fans only believe that Anakin was the Chosen One, but there is a growing consensus that the role was passed on with his failure and fall to Darth Vader.
In the animated TV series Obi-Wan and Darth Maul believe that Luke was the Chosen One but now Luke, aka Mark Hamill, has revealed what the Force has in store for the next generation.
Hamill told Entertainment Weekly that his belief a family member was the next Chosen One was a catastrophic disaster which had terrible consequences for himself, his family and the galaxy as a whole.
He said: “Luke made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the Chosen One, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character. And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences.”
Kylo Ren was believed to be the next Chosen One. It makes his defection to the Dark Side even more devastating, but also has a rather predictable symmetry with the story of his grandfather, Anakin.
Something Luke can not help being even more hurt by after Kylo betrayed his uncle and then killed his father.
Hamill added: “Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

Johnson also commented that all of this backstory will be affecting Kylo’s arc in The Last Jedi.
He said: “He’s definitely been knocked off base. The defeat that he had at the end of The Force Awakens, but even bigger than that, his huge defining act which, spoiler alert, is the murder of his father… that’s the more interesting thing to dive into.
“How has he dealt with that in his head? Where is he at in terms of that act and what does that mean for him?”
