The Star Wars franchise has delivered some remarkable aliens over the years.
The latest leaks from The Last Jedi movie sets in Ireland reveal that Luke has been sharing his island with the indigenous porgs.
There are also reports that Chewbacca will have a moving encounter with the creatures.
What is a porg and what does it look like?
According to MakingStarWars.Net, porgs are birds that are apparently based somewhat on puffins and the real-life indigenous birds of Skellig Island where the movie has been filmed.
All the creatures of Ahch-To are believed to be closley connected to the Force and there have been reports that Rey will have to fight a ferasome sea dragon in The Last Jedi to earn the right to stay on the planet.
MakingStarWars.Net described the porgs as follows: “They have solid black eyes. The bodies are a soft white with a tinge of grey. On the corner of the head near the eye line, the feathers are orange.”
This first image seems to resemble a rather portly penguin, but is appraently based closely on all the information the site has received.
The sketch is by the fan site’s resident artist Lumberjack Nick, who also put together the first images of the At-AT ‘Gorilla Walkers’ we expect to see on Crait during the battle shown in the Last Jedi teaser trailer.
Apparently the porgs will help comfort Chewbacca, who is devastated over losing Han Solo just days before.
Porgs are believed to be benign, despite having razor-sharp teeth. Leaked reports detail a scene between the Wookiee and a nest of new hatched porg chicks.
There are also reports of even more emotional scenes at the start of the film when Luke is reunited with his old friends R2-D2 and Chewbacca, who accompanied Rey to the planet on the Millennium Falcon.
