Stacey Dooley’s gun trade documentary dropped by BBC amid IS brides controversy

The BBC have decided to postpone Stacey Dooley’s latest documentary in the aftermath of two shootings in the United States.

Her latest documentary titled Face To Face With The Arms Dealers investigates the gun trade in America.

But after thirty one people were killed in two shootings that took place within 12 hours of each other in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, the BBC decided to pull it from schedules.

The decision comes after the BBC were forced to apologise when Stacey wrongly described an Islamic prayer gesture as an ISIS salute in a Panorama episode.

In a voiceover for Panorama: Stacey Meets the IS Brides, she said: “As we left the camp, we saw women raising their index finger in an IS salute.”

However the group of women who were pointing at the sky were actually performing a traditional Islamic prayer gesture.

Stacey spent time with the women whilst visiting a Syrian refugee camp for the documentary.

Face To Face With The Arms Dealers is currently not available on BBC iPlayer but the BBC’s website does give an insight into what viewers can expect from the upcoming documentary.

In the programme, Stacey meets a family of Arms Dealers who live in Arkansas in the United States.

The family sell weapons to over 100 countries and the Strictly Come Dancing champion visits them to discuss their controversial career.

The documentary maker will also get to shoot one of the world’s most powerful sniper rifles.

According to The Sun, the BBC believe it’s appropriate to postpone the documentary and a date for its released will be confirmed soon.

In other Stacey news, the dancing champion has teased her own return to the Strictly dance floor.

During an appearance on BBC Breakfast, Stacey was on the sofa when the sixth celebrity was announced for this year’s show.

Last Friday BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell was revealed he would be toe-tapping his way on to the Strictly dance floor.

However just before the announcement was made, Stacey joked she was going to be the next celebrity to be revealed.

As Ben Thompson and Steph McGovern got ready to make the reveal, Stacey jumped in and made a cheeky suggestion of her own.

Referring to the picture of GlitterBalls behind them, Steph remarked: “GlitterBalls and a champion on the sofa as well.”

Stacey then joked: “I’m doing it again!”

“Could you imagine,” Steph quipped before adding: “All of the other contestants would be like, ’Nooooo.’”

Strictly Come Dancing returns next month on BBC One.
