Spend your time before flying at a departure lounge BEACH…but there’s a catch

It’s a horrible feeling when waiting to board a flight after the perfect holiday.

However, the boring airport queuing before flying could soon be changed for the better.

Instead of counting down the hours, it can be spent with a cocktail on a beach thanks to Virgin Holidays.

It’s certainly a revolutionary way to pass the time at the end of a holiday.

Virgin holidays have created ‘The Departure Beach’ for any weary travellers wanting to extend their trip.

Including an air-conditioned lounge, bathroom and showers, a beach bar and check-in service, the beautiful lounge is located at Brownes Beach.

Customers will even be picked up from their hotel after breakfast as well as having their luggage taken for them, and then taken directly to check in to make sure they make their flight.

However, travellers will have to be flying from Barbados to make the most of this additional treat.

Cheryl Carter of Barbados Tourism Marketing commented: “It’s situated on one of the most picturesque beaches on the island why would you choose to waste that last day of your holiday?”

The creation of the airport beach is after a survey found that many travellers experienced a ‘lost day’ when having to check out of a hotel at midday, and waiting for an evening flight.

The ‘lost day’ adds up to a whopping 2.4 million hours of British holiday time per year.

With this adding up to 10% of a holiday per person, the wasted time between a hotel and flying can now be experienced for the better.

It means ending a holiday on a high with the last blast of sun and sand.
