SNES Classic Mini pre-order UPDATE – Miss out on pre-orders? There is a great alternative

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Edition has been hugely popular, with pre-orders selling out everywhere.

Currently, all major websites in the UK have sold out of SNES Classic Mini pre-orders with none available to purchase currently.

Amazon UK, Argos, Tesco Direct, Game, Smyths Toys, ShopTo and Very have all sold out of SNES Mini pre-orders.

While in the US, SNES Classic Mini pre-orders STILL haven’t opened.

Walmart looked to have become the first American retailer to open pre-orders, but when the product became available more than two weeks ago.

The stock sold out within minutes, but a few days later the retailer had to cancel ALL orders.

They said a “technical glitch” had caused the stock to become available to purchase early.

Nintendo of America have tried to reassure fans over the SNES Classic Mini pre-order situation, saying pre-orders will open later this month.

However, for fans looking for an alternative way to relive the 16-Bit era of gaming, there are a number of other options.

Hyperkin have teased the upcoming release of the company’s next clone console, the Supa RetroN HD, which plays original SNES cartridges.

It uses hardware instead of software emulation, to give a more authentic experience, and boots 720p output via HDMI.

It also has a composite AV cable, and owners will be able to toggle between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio.

There’s also a region switch, so owners will be able to play carts from all over the world.

The Supa RetroN HD will have two controller ports, and it will ship with at least one of Hyperkin’s own redesigned SNES controllers.

Like other Hyperkin consoles, controllers from the original console can also be used with the clone version.

The release date and price has not been revealed, but it will launch before the end of the year.

For gamers who cannot wait that long, there are a number of other options available today.

Hyperkin also make the Retron 5, a clone console capable of playing NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games.

It can play games from any region, and you can use original controllers from the NES, SNES and Mega Drive with the Retron 5.

The retro console is also capable of upscaling games to 720p, and has save states available for all games.

It costs £149.99 in grey and £139.99 in black, and is available from Funstock Retro.

A similar console, the Retro Freak, is also available to purchase today.

This lets you play games from the PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16, Super Grafx, NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, SEGA Genesis, SEGA Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.

It’s available for £169.99, but unlike the Retron 5 you can’t use a console’s original controllers.
