Siân Lloyd: Five things I can't live without

1 RIO COFFEE

There are only three things that I am remotely precious about – expensive toilet paper, a comfortable bed and good coffee.

I really don’t like the instant stuff and I simply cannot function until I’ve had a mug of freshly ground Rio. Friends and family often joke about my aversion to mornings as my natural wake-up time is around 11am.

In fact, if I’m not working I very rarely surface before then. I have a holiday home in Wales and if I have people staying they know never to expect breakfast or conversation until I’ve had my first caffeine fix.

2 CHEESE

I am a real foodie and enjoy nothing more than preparing a huge feast for the special people in my life. When I cook I certainly don’t believe in counting calories and whether I’m serving up chilli or Mexican food I always add in ample amounts of cheese.

When it comes to cheese, it is definitely a case of the smellier the better. If I had to choose, my favourite would be a slab of really strong Cheddar served with fancy crackers, a big dollop of apple chutney and maybe a small glass of malbec.

Close to my home there is this wonderful delicatessen and I will often buy myself a sliver of their finest cheese to eat on the way home. It’s my idea of the perfect treat.

3 TWITTER

I am absolutely addicted to Twitter and on average I probably tweet about 20 times a day. It is such a useful barometer of public opinion and it often beats the news channels to all the latest developments in the world.

Twitter brings me into contact with articles and issues that might not otherwise be on my radar.

I also love the challenge of crafting pithy messages in fewer than 140 characters.

4 MY HAIRDRESSER

I have incredibly fine hair and the only person who can give it gloss and glamour is my fabulous hairdresser Mark Coray. He has been doing my hair for more than 20 years and he is so good that I won’t let anyone else touch it. His salon Coray and Co. is based in Cardiff so I seem to spend a lot of time on the M4.

However as far as I’m concerned, a day on the motorway is a small price to pay for perfectly coiffured hair. Mark is a really good friend as well as my hairdresser. He always makes me laugh and provides me with coffee and counsel.

5 LOUD MUSIC

There is something so intoxicating about ramping up the volume on the car radio and singing along at the top of my voice. I love all kinds of music and my favourite artists range from Annie Lennox and Adele to Leonard Cohen.

My home in Wales is in the countryside and there aren’t any other houses around for miles. So when I have friends staying I love to sit outside with music blaring and wine flowing. I am not a big drinker myself but I will invariably end up singing and dancing until the early hours.
