Sex expert explains the REAL reason older women have better orgasms – and how YOU can too

Alix Fox, sex educator, spoke to Express.co.uk about orgasms, changing attitudes to sex in the UK, and masturbation.

Explaining the differences in orgasm for men and women as they age, Alix said: “The good news for women is it is easier to experience G-spot orgasms after your 30s.

“This is because oestrogen levels decline, which causes a slight thinning of the vaginal wall. This makes the G-spot easier to access and put pressure on.”

There have been debates over the years on whether the G-spot actually exists, but Alix believes that it does, and explained where to find it.

She said: “The G-spot is two-three inches up on the front wall, towards your belly button.

“It may feel slightly more bumpy and may stick out a bit as a women becomes more aroused, and it is the size of a kidney bean.

“To reach it, it can be useful to try an angled toy – this will help if you have arthritic wrists or suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome.”

Sadly for men, the male orgasm does not increase in frequency strength with age as it does for women.

Explaining why, Alix said: “Erectile dysfunction can be more of a problem, and there are all sorts of factors behind this.

“Speak to your GP, or if you are keen to avoid using drugs, there are non-chemical solutions, for example penis rings, which help hold blood in the penis and can be used in line with penis pumps.”

Alex was also keen to extoll the benefits of masturbation, revealing the health benefits behind self-pleasure

She said: “Psychologically, masturbation can help you explore your own body, and a lot of people find it helps with body positivity.

“It also helps a lot of people sleep better – pleasure and climax provokes endorphins which can increase people’s general wellbeing and happiness, as well as decrease anxiety and depression.”

Alix recognised that for the older generation in particular, masturbation is seen as “dirty…indulgent…sinful”, but she is keen to change perceptions.

Older generations of men in particulay, who often struggle with maintaining an erection, could benefit from masturbation.

Explaining how, Alix said: “Men can use toys to train themselves to last longer in bed. I would recommend Tenga toys, which are new to the UK but massive in Japan.

“Primarily known for male masturbation, Tenga toys don’t look like genitals at all.”

Ultimately, Alix was keen to stress older lovers should not give up on sexual pleasure, and said: “You don’t need to give up on a satisfying sex life, either with a partner or by yourself, as you age.”
