Tourism in the UK has faced a Brexit boom as travellers seek a holiday a bit closer to home.
Seaside towns have faced a huge increase in bookings since last year’s Brexit vote, as staycations continue to be the popular choice this year.
Over five thousand B&B’s across the nation were used in the survey by online booking specialists Evvivo.
The B&BS found an increase of bookings up by 19.2 per cent post the Brexit vote.
Eviivo also found that B&B’s who were labelled as ‘family friendly’ had a huge in bookings with an increase of 56.9 per cent year on year.
The most popular places included Penzance, Scarborough and Torquay as families head to the beautiful seaside towns.
The online booking specialist has called it the ‘Enid Blyton’ effect with families choosing nostalgic places as mentioned in the famous series.
As more and more travellers are realising the options that the UK has to offer for a summer holiday, the popularity of staying in the country is sure to keep rising.
Tom Messett, CMO at Eviivo, commented on the analysis of the survey.
“It’s looking more like a Pirates of Penzance summer than a Pirates of the Caribbean summer,” he joked.
However, he also noted the change in recent years which has attributed to their recent success.
“British B&B’s, the seaside or otherwise, have changed beyond recognition in the last 10 years. The cliches are a thing of the past.”
