The CW series has already revealed that season two will see the introduction of Betty (played by Lili Reinhart) and Polly Cooper’s (Tiera Skovbye) secret brother Chic (Hart Denton), whom their mother Alice (Madchen Amick) gave up for adoption as a teenager.
Now, the gripping new trailer for next week’s fourth episode appears to confirm viewers’ fears that the sinister hooded figure will be none other than Chic himself.
As ex-con man Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) narrates ominously: “So much chaos and confusion,” fans are treated to a series of worrying snapshots of the series’ main characters, including a sobbing Alice.
“I’m terrified,” she confesses to her daughter Betty.
But the moment which could reveal all sees the blonde high-school student opening a cryptic letter covered in symbols and addressed to her.
“I got a letter,” she cries. “He’s doing it for me.”
Could these five words prove that Miss Grundy’s (Sarah Habel) murderer is Chic Cooper, paying his long-lost family a deadly visit after all these years?
Or will the killer actually prove to be another mysterious character obsessed with everyone’s favourite cheerleader?
The 40-second clip also teases Archie Andrews’ (KJ Apa) descent into madness in a tense moment with his girlfriend Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes).
“I want the black hood dead. I wanna be the last person he sees,” Archie warns.
Riverdale season two episode three is available to watch on Netflix now, and episode four airs Wednesday in the US.
