Riverdale season four will return to The CW and Netflix later this year and it looks like Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones’ romance may not survive.
Jughead will be sent to a prep school while Betty finishes up her senior year meaning they’ll be locked in a long-distance relationship.
Actors Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart who play the loved-up teens have hinted it will cause “stress”, which could lead to a split.
The spoiler comes as the pair have reportedly split with one another after two years of dating.
The pair first sparked rumours of a romance back in May 2017 when Cole shared an image of Lili in a field of flowers on his Instagram page.
Cole and Lili both arrived at the star-studded Met Gala together earlier this year but had refused to comment publicly on their romance.
Former child star Cole told People: “Lili and I are constantly talked about in the public eye, and for me I think that it is being deeply informed by the love of the characters and wanting to see us together.
“I think that in many way’s it’s offensive and an invasion of privacy, but it’s also a badge of honour.
“It means you’re creating chemistry on-screen that is so understandable that people want to see it in real life, which is flattering from a professional perspective.”
News of their split comes after they appeared alongside co-stars KJ Apa, Camila Mendes and Madeleine Petsch for San Diego Comic Con at the weekend.
Talking abut their characters, Cole hinted their would be trouble for Betty and Jughead.
He told Entertainment Tonight: “[Jughead’s] only back in town on the weekends.”
Lili added the distance between the couple will “probably cause some stress”.
