Revealed: This is where Britons travel to most – and it's NOT in Europe

With the UK winter showing no signs of easing off and Storm Emma continuing to cause temperatures to plummet well below zero, a sunny holiday has never sounded more appealing.

While the snow flurries outside, travel provider Kuoni have turned their attention towards warmer weather.

Comparing data from the previous year, Kuoni has released their top 25 travel destinations around the world according to their popularity in booking.

Some of these destinations will soon have you forget the cold conditions here in the UK.

Remaining at the top of the list for luxury summer destinations is The Maldives. The tropical climate in the Indian Ocean and shimmering white sands make the breath-taking archipelago the best selling destination for 15 consecutive years.

According to local tourism authorities, the number of Britons visiting the crystal clear waters has grown by 18.7 per cent.

Staying in the Indian Ocean and taking second spot is Mauritius.

Referred to by Lonely Planet as “an Island of Eden”, visitors to the island can choose from a range of luxury resorts that thrive off the picture-perfect beaches.

Thanks to new flights routes from Qatar to Chiang Mai, Krabi and Pattaya, tucking into an authentic bowl of Pad Thai has never been easier for British tourists.

Also attracted by the value for money of local cuisine, Thailand is rising up the popularity rank.

In a report by the Thai tourist board, tourism reached a new high in 2017, with more than 35 million visitors to the country.

Although overtaken by Thailand, Sri Lanka stands at number four.

A record-breaking 2.3 million travelled internationally last year according to John Amaratunga, the Sri Lankan tourist promotion minister.

For those wishing to stay a little closer to home, Cyprus has risen in popularity and proves to be a year-round popular destination.

Similarly, bookings for Greece have already increased by 50 per cent since 2017.

Although at the bottom of the list, ranked at 25, Portugal is still a hot spot for British tourism, winning them over with its rich culture, beautiful beaches, and luxury hotels.
