Which city comes out on top? It may surprise you.

The number one spot goes to Purfleet in Essex, which had the cheapest house price according to Zoopla which is just £210,820.

It also had satisfaction rates of 7.77 according to the Office National Statistics, with journey times to London just 33 minutes.

A season ticket wasn’t the cheapest season ticket with it still costing a steep £2,376.

Coming in second was Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, followed by Chestnut, Hertfordshire.

Essex had the most towns in the top ten, with Laindon and Grays also featuring.

However, it was bad news for Virginia Water in Surrey, with average house prices at £1.5 million, making it the worst London commuter town in the UK.

“While house prices have a massive impact on where people buy, it’s not the only influencing factor. We hope our research will open people’s eyes to locations they might not have thought of previously.”
