Regina King, John Ridley Team for FX Series About Atlanta Child Murders

Regina King and John Ridley are teaming up to tell a real-life American crime.

The Emmy-winning actress is attached to star in No Place Safe, a drama in development at FX chronicling the Atlanta Child Murders, our sister site Deadline reports.

The potential series, to be adapted by Empire scribe Wendy Calhoun, is based on the Kim Reid memoir of the same name. Reid at the time was a 13-year-old whose mother was one of the investigators in search of the killer of at least 28 African-American children, adolescents and young adults between 1979 and 1981; Atlanta native Wayne Williams was eventually convicted for two of the adult murders and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. King will executive-produce alongside her sister, Reina King, as well as Calhoun and American Crime EPs Ridley and Michael McDonald.

News that No Place Safe is in development comes as the future of American Crime is in doubt. Though it remains a critical darling, numbers have waned in Season 3, averaging under 2 million viewers with a 0.4 demo rating.
