Razzies 2018: Jennifer Lawrence speaks out on ‘WORST Actress’ nomination

The star’s work in Mother! last year did not go down well with the Razzie voters, who shortlisted her for the ‘accolade’ ahead of the ceremony this weekend.

The Razzies are intended as a companion to the Oscars, marking the worst in Hollywood output. Lawrence is up against Katherine Heigl (Unforgettable), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Darker), Tyler Perry (Boo 2!) and Emma Watson (The Circle).

Speaking on Marc Macron’s podcast, she said she still stands by the movie, which divided audiences and struggled to perform at the box office.

“I love it, I think it’s brilliant,” she said. “I’m surprised they opened it as big as they did. Arthouse release [might have been better].

“But I think its the closest thing to perfect I’ve ever seen. The film has its own language. I really love it, I’m proud of it.”

She jokily added: “Coming from Razzie-nominated Jennifer Lawrence…”

When Macron asked her about it, she went on: “I get nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actress.

“It’s OK! Jack Nicholson got nominated for a Razzie The Shining, so I feel okay.”

Mother! picked up three nominations overall; and is also up for Worst Director (Darren Aronofsky) and Worst Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem).

Lawrence is now promoting her next movie Red Sparrow, which is in cinemas from this weekend.

The Razzies will take place on Saturday night.
