Queen Elizabeth, 91, has reigned for nearly 66 years and has been married to her husband Prince Philip for 70 years.
The wedding in 1947 was a spectacular event, with her wedding dress famously being paid for with rationing coupons following World War II.
After the wedding on November 20, the couple chose to head on their honeymoon straight afterwards.
The destination wasn’t as exotic as many may think.
The newlyweds chose to spend their time at two places in the United Kingdom that meant something to the family.
One of the first destinations was to Broadlands in Hampshire.
It is the family home of the Mountbatten’s, Prince Philip’s family and is occupied by Earl Mountbatten, his uncle.
Prince Charles and Diana also spent their first three days honeymooning there in 1981.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip then chose to head to Birkhall in Scotland.
It was bought in 1715 by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria as part of the Balmoral estate.
This is where the Queen grew up, as the Queen Mother often spent her summers on the estate with her daughters and King George V.
Upon her death in 2001, it was passed to Prince Charles, who then honeymooned there in 2005 with the Duchess of Cornwall.
The Queen always chooses another UK destination for her summer holiday, which is Balmoral.
She often stays at the estate in August and September as her annual trip away, due to the amount of privacy it offers the royal family.
The 50,000 acres are private property as it is owned by them and not owned by the Crown Estate.
Her granddaughter Princess Eugenie once commented that it was the one place she is “most happy”.
