Queen Elizabeth always chooses THIS destination for her annual holiday

Queen Elizabeth is one of the most well-travelled monarchs in history, having travelled to over 130 countries during her 65-year-reign.

The country she has travelled to the most is Canada, having visited a whopping 22 times since being the Queen.

There is one destination, however, that the Queen chooses every year when it comes to her annual holiday with the family.

It is much closer to home than people may realise.

The Queen holidays at Balmoral every year during the summer months.

She often spends two months during August and September there with her family as a way as a way to relax, compared to her busy visits abroad.

Balmoral was bought by Prince Albert for £32,000 in 1852 and is said to be the Queen’s favourite home.

Therefore it remains the private property of the royal family and isn’t owned by the Crown Estate.

It is said that they often go for walks on the estate, create picnics and cooks barbecues.

The 50,000 acres offers the privacy that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip look for during their summer away from the public life.

Princess Eugenie said during ITV’s documentary Our Queen At Ninety: “I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands.”

Earlier this year, photographs revealed that the Scottish home hasn’t changed much in the last 40 years.

The Queen also scared a Saudi Arabian leader during her time at Balmoral.

In 2005, she met King Abdullah, the former king of Saudi Arabia.

She then proceeded to jump in the front of the car, “turned the ignition and drove off”.

With women being prohibited from driving in Saudi Arabia at the time, the Queen, who had trained as a mechanic during the war, ended up terrifying the king.
