Pokemon Go news: Shiny Ponyta and Shiny Cubone live for Ingress Prime celebrations

Pokemon Go Trainers can now catch two new shiny Pokemon as part of the Ingress Prime celebrations today.

This includes a shiny green Cubone and blue Ponyta being launched today and now available for capture.

Additionally, players have been gifted free in-game avatar items in support of Ingress Prime.

Trainers have confirmed that both variants can be caught in the wild, with no hint at whether this is a timed release or not.

Shiny Ponytas and Cubones are currently spawning in the wild at a slightly higher rate than usual and will likely not appear in eggs.

However, like usual, Niantic has not provided full details on all the ways you can unlock these new variants.

So expect updates in the future adding more details to what is going in Pokemon Go right now.

For those that don’t know, Ingress Prime is an upgrade on the original AR title released by Niantic.

Players uncover Portals disguised as public art and landmarks, with the new Prime version available to download now on Android and iPhone platforms.

Agents will begin their journey in Ingress Prime with an all-new interactive story to introduce players to the sci-fi universe and gameplay mechanics required to capture Portals and the powerful resource, known as Exotic Matter (XM), leaking from them.

Upon completing the training, players must choose a side between The Enlightened and The Resistance, two factions battling for control of these landmarks and the fate of the world.

“Ingress Prime is built on Niantic’s Real World Platform and serves as a key driver for innovation around gameplay and technologies for all Niantic products,” said John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic.

“Since its original release in November 2012, Ingress and its passionate and diverse user community have been an inspiration for the team to create new and innovative ways for players to work together both in-game and in the real world.”

As with the original, the Ingress Prime storyline will evolve and change based on how Ingress Agents interact with one another and the outcome of Ingress real world “Anomaly” events.

As Agents collaborate and compete, the story will expand through a new interactive hub which serves as the entry point into the deep Ingress universe.

And it seems likely that we will get more crossover events between the two games, as both are run and managed by Niantic.

Fans of Pokemon Go will also be able to switch over their Pokemon when the new Let’s Go Pikachu game arrives on Nintendo Switch.

It’s already been revealed that some new Pokemon will be added to the game and will require them to be caught in Pokemon Go first.
