Tonight will see the second instalment of the brand new talent show go head-to-head with ITV‘s The Voice Kids in a bid to win over viewers.
The 41-year-old BBC favourite revealed how he really feels about the rivalry in an exclusive interview with Epress.co.uk.
“I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want people to watch it,” he admitted. “But I hope people like it.”
He also explained that he doesn’t feel too worried about the opposition, adding: “I think people will choose what they want to choose.
“I hope that people will get what I’m trying to do with the show. I feel really confident about it,” he said.
Last week, Pitch Battle seemed to fail to strike a chord with viewers, however, averaging two million audience members and peaking with 2.8 million.
The Voice Kids, however, came out on top in the fight for ratings, with a high of 3.2 million.
The first episode of the new series saw Gareth and fellow judge Kelis, 37, joined by Pop Idol winner Will Young, 38, as six choirs battled it out for a place in the live grand final.
Viewers were left cringing as Will awkwardly joined in with victors Leeds Contemporary Singers to perform his hit Evergreen.
The uncomfortable moment constituted the dramatic twist in the new show whereby every week the guest judge indicated which group has made it through to the final by joining them onstage as they perform one of their best-known songs.
