The 38-year-old returned to BBC One’s new entertainment series, where 30 of the country’s best choirs and vocal groups battled it out in a series of sing-or-be-sung-off vocal challenges, but took a tumble at the star of the show.
BRIT Award winner and former choirboy Will walked down the show’s stairs alongside Bebe Rexha to meet host Mel Giedroyc.
Will was visibly shocked by the blunder and quickly grabbed the silver bannister.
The audience at home noticed the live mistake and instantly took to social media to share their thoughts.
One viewer tweeted: “Will Young going down the stairs was hilarious. He nearly totally lost his footing. #PitchBattle.”
“So did Will Young just almost fall down the stairs? Awww babes, good save though #PitchBattle,” posted another, as a third asked: “Did @willyoung just nearly fall down the stairs there?? #PitchBattle.”
A fourth teased: “#PitchBattle I am already looking forward to next week’s show to see what other stunts Will Young can do #Stairgate.”
However, some believe that the Pop Idol winner was joking and simply playing up to the cameras.
One fan tweeted: “@willyoung was joking, pretending to fall down the stairs, l saw him myself, anyone who is a fan of Will Young knows he jokes #PitchBattle.”
“Was that on purpose @willyoung? Styled it out #PitchBattle,” posted another, as a third added: “#PitchBattle Will Young staged that fall!”
Pitch Battle is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer now.
