Piers Morgan talks about QUITTING Good Morning Britain: 'It's killing me before my eyes'

The controversial ITV broadcaster, 52, explained that the gruelling schedule presenting the topical morning programme, which starts at 6.30am, was leaving him drained.

The father-of-four admitted: “It’s killing me before my very eyes. It’s the least healthy existence imaginable.

“Your immune system gets crushed,” Piers Morgan continued. “I’ve basically been ill for the entire 18 months in some form.”

Opening up about whether he was thinking about leaving his position on Good Morning Britain, Piers told the Daily Mirror: “I’ll stay ’til death. If I die, it won’t continue much longer.”

He also recalled a meeting with BBC Breakfast‘s Sophie Raworth, who had told him that her co-star Jeremy Bowen had become convinced he was dying of cancer after exhausting himself with the schedule for the show.

Jeremy even had tests to determine if he had the disease, but Piers went on to say that it turned out it was simply the early mornings.

“The moment he stopped doing the show, the pain went away,” he added. “Literally, it was killing him.”

Piers is well-known for his presence on GMB, and regularly has viewers divided over his controversial opinions and fiery interviews.

Last week the presenter raged at the director of the company who carried out the renovation on Grenfell Tower in 2016.

In the wake of the horrific fire that killed at least 58 people. Piers found himself stonewalled repeatedly in his line of question about the building’s cladding, causing him to press harder and end up fuming at the guest.

Many viewers praised him for his relentless approach, with one person tweeting: “Piers Morgan asking the right questions as Andrew Goldman blabs it with repeat yin yang answers.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6.30am on ITV.
