The Good Morning Britain host cut his argument with Antonia, who believes Americans should be able to arm themselves, short as their conversation descended into a shouting match.
Referring to the recent shooting in Florida, in which the gunman used an AR-15, Piers Morgan asked: “Can you explain to people what the purpose of having a high-powered rifle is?
“You don’t use it for hunting. Why do you need a gun to fire like that?”
“It’s not a high-powered rifle. I’ve worked at a gun range many times,” Antonia hit back. “They do use it for hunting and for farming.”
Unimpressed Piers snapped: “But people are using it to kill children. The killer at Sandy Hook murdered 20 people with one of these rifles.
“The killer in Florida just killed 17 people, they are certainly high-powered killing machines.”
Antonia tried to explain: “It’s not about the fire arm. It’s about the person behind it.
“We want people who are law abiding to have access to defend themselves.”
Becoming more enraged, Piers shouted: “How many people have to be killed before you believe relaxing gun laws and not having tighter restrictions does not work?”
“Piers, I could ask you the same question,” Antonia replied. “How many people have to die before you realise gun control does not work?”
Piers, 52, went on to list a number of countries where the number of deaths from gun crime was very low due to gun control but Antonia was not impressed, insisting he was simply naming western countries.
“It’s not funny Antonia, it’s not funny children getting killed,” he argued.
Antonia hit back: “Shame on you Piers Morgan. The examples you used are all in the West.”
“America is in the west you ridiculous woman,” he raged. “It’s in the west.
“We’re done here. You don’t even know where America is.”
