Ovarian cancer symptoms: Irregular periods also linked to THIS other gynaecological cancer

Ovarian cancer and cervical cancer two of the more well known gynaecological cancers, which kill 21 woman a day.

However, womb cancer – also known as uterine cancer or endometrial cancer – affects far more people, and deaths have risen by 20 per cent in the past decade.

In fact, it is actually the fourth most common cancer in women.

It comes after breast cancer, lung cancer and cancer of the colon and rectum.

The most common symptom is abnormal bleeding from the vagina, and it’s often the easiest to spot.

Indeed, 90 per cent of people who are diagnosed with womb cancer have reported new post-menopausal bleeding, or irregular vaginal bleeding.

Other related symptoms include periods that are heavier than usual, and vaginal bleeding in between normal periods.

Less common signs of the condition include tummy pain and pain during sex.

As it gets more advanced, you can suffer loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea and pain in the back, legs or pelvis, too.

Irregular periods, and particularly bleeding after the menopause, are also indicators of ovarian and cervical cancer too.

Other symptoms of ovarian cancer include feeling constantly bloated, feeling full quickly when eating and needing to pee more often than usual.

The main symptom of cervical cancer is unusual bleeding, and it usually occurs after sex.

Other early signs include pain and discomfort during sex, and unpleasant smelling vaginal discharge.

Vagina cancer and vulva cancer also affect many women.

The most common symptom of vaginal cancer is also abnormal vaginal bleeding.

While symptoms of vulva cancer can include bleeding from the vulva or blood-stained vaginal discharge between periods, persistent itching, lumps and burning pain when passing urine are other indicators.

You should contact your GP if you have bleeding after sex, bleeding outside of your normal periods and new bleeding after the menopause as while it might not be, it could be a gynaecological cancer.
