Nevertheless, according to Coral, One Direction is now odds-on to reform in 2018 at 1-2.
A spokesman for the bookmakers said: “The odds have been slashed considerably in the last few days on the world’s biggest boyband getting back together and if this latest gamble is correct, it could be sooner rather than later.”
So why the sudden shortening of odds and flurry of bets? Could it have something to do with the Spice Girls?
The 1990s girlband are currently working out their reunion, so perhaps theirs makes a One Direction one seem more likely. A Simon Cowell insider certainly thinks so.
Earlier this year a source said: “So he [Simon] has talked to some of the boys, not all.
“But if and when the Spice Girls reunion gets off the ground and ends up being a huge success, he will ask all the boys to get back together sooner than they probably even would want.
“He is convinced it would work as he wants at least one more album from them before everything is all said and done.”
But what about One Direction’s members? Are they up for it?
Last August Liam seemed hopeful: “I think we will reunite at some point in the future. We have to!
“We’ve got an album we haven’t even toured yet. And I want to write some more songs as well with the boys.”
However Niall is busy this year with his solo tour.
In December he said: “I’m touring next year. I’ll tour this record now.
“I’d say over the course of the year I’ll start writing. With jamming at sound checks and things like that, things always come up – little riffs and bits and pieces.”
