Buzzfeed News
A trove of documents and excerpts from conversations within Breitbart, an alt-right news website once edited by former counselor to President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, shows seemingly deep ties to modern Nazi figures in the US.
Uncovered by Buzzfeed News’ Joseph Bernstein, a series of communications, leaks, and a video establish how the website’s former tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos often trafficked with ideological extremists on the right to fight a culture war under Bannon’s instructions to “go help save western civilization.”
Though Yiannopoulos often defends his work as being satire and provocations that offer counter points to what he considers liberal-dominated college campuses across the US, Buzzfeed’s reports uncovered damning ties between Yiannopoulos and Nazism.
For example, Buzzfeed uncovered that Yiannopoulos used as passwords to private accounts references to the Kristallnacht, or the Night of Long Knives, a purge of German Jews and gays by the paramilitary organization that helped Adolf Hitler rise to power.
Yiannopoulos himself identifies as gay and Jewish, and denied being a racist to Buzzfeed.
Also in the report, Buzzfeed published a video of Yiannopoulos signing an overblown version of “America the beautiful” as avowed Nazi Richard Spencer and other alt-right figures gave Nazi salutes.
