Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Ball to front new BBC cookery competition rivalling Bake Off

The Big Family Cooking Showdown is a new competitive food show that is expected to air this autumn in a search to find the nation’s best family of cooks.

The new series could go directly against Channel 4’s version of The Great British Bake Off following its controversial move last year.

Although they lost the hit baking show, 2015 winner Nadiya has remained loyal to the BBC and said she is “really looking forward” to working on the latest cooking series.

She said: “Family and food have always gone hand in hand and I’m looking forward to getting to know the recipes and traditions of the different families taking part.

“Having been through a food competition as an amateur cook myself, I know exactly how tough it can get and so I’ll be there for them, alongside Zoe, as the pressure really builds!”

Joining her as co-host is Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host Zoe.

Talking about the new food show the 46-year-old DJ said: “It’s time to celebrate passionate foodie families all over the country and this series will show us home cooking at its best, even if it’s using old pans and mismatched crockery.”

Sixteen families will welcome the hosts and chefs Giorgio Locatelli and Rosemary Shrager into their own kitchens to whip up dishes using their favourite family recipes.

Michelin star chef Giorgio and The Real Marigold Hotel star Rosemary Shrager will judge the 12-part-series and will set challenges in both the studio kitchen and home kitchens up and down the country.

The Big Family Cooking Showdown was commissioned by Controller of BBC Two, Patrick Holland, and he promises it to be a “wonderful big-hearted show celebrating the importance of food in family life”.

It will be a busy year for Nadiya, 31, who is also starring in another cookery show and will tour Britain in the BBC Two series Nadiya’s British Food Adventure.

The Big Family Cooking Showdown will launch this autumn on BBC Two.
