The UK carrier is going to reward people for being pleasant.
Monarch has announced its plan to offer free upgrades to customers who are nice.
Upgrades will be doled out on a discretionary basis by airline staff.
They’ll include extra leg room seats which offer up to 15 per cent more space and come with a value of more than £100 for two people.
Also on offer will be priority check in, which is only valued at £3.
The move is part of a year-long campaign for Monarch to promote traditional values of chivalry, courtesy and respect.
The budget airline says it’s following in the footsteps of Pret a Manger, which has handed out free drinks to its customers as a “random act of kindness”.
But there are several conditions to the free upgrades for Monarch customers, including a maximum of 10 bookings per week.
Only passengers who book over the phone or need to talk to an airline staff member will be eligible.
The incentive has been launched after Monarch conducted a study about happiness.
Led by Professor Jonathan Freeman from i2 Media Research at Goldsmiths University, the study revealed a link between being nice and increased happiness, perceived health and success.
Participants who rated themselves as ‘nice’, were more likely to be richer, happier and more relaxed.
