Modern Warfare 4 rumours surface, Call of Duty 2019 to include MW2 campaign remaster?

It’s fair to say that a lot of Call of Duty rumours appears around the start of a new year.

The cyclical nature of how new COD games are released means that fans can expect news to start dropping in January, followed by a big announcement in the Spring.

And so far, rumours are swirling that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is being released in 2019.

Infinity Ward has started dropping hints in regards to the next COD title that they are working.

These include a lot of images with skull motifs, which made fans think of Call of Duty Ghosts.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier recently posted that this isn’t the case, meaning it will likely be another sub-franchise.

The chances of the studio braving another new instalment following the criticism Infinite Warfare received seems slim.

So could the skull imagery be tied to Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley from Modern Warfare 2 instead?

It certainly seems to make sense; The Express heard last year that a Modern Warfare 2 remaster project was in the works, but never materialised.

It sounded like another standalone project from Raven Software; however, recent rumours suggest that Modern Warfare 4 could include a remastered MW2 campaign instead.

Leaked information doing the rounds online suggests that an MW2 campaign will be included in the Modern Warfare 4 bundle, while the game’s multiplayer will offer modern multiplayer gameplay.

For the time being, this remains just a rumour and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

There’s also the chance that Activision is planning to release two COD games this year, much like they did with Modern Warfare Remastered.

Call of Duty is a franchise that suffers a large number of leaks before an official announcement or release.

So it seems pretty likely we will hear more about what is being planned for 2019 before the official trailers are released.

Former Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg made comments about the next three-year slate of COD games in development back in 2018.

This included Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and means at least two more titles are being hyped up before their release.

During an earnings report for Activision, Hirshberg commented: “It suffices to say I think we have the best 3 year slate in Call of Duty’s history, which is really saying something given this franchise’s history.

“And I think we’ve got multiple different game universes that we know our players love on tap, so obviously, more to come on that.”

With those comments in mind, Call of Duty 2019 could indeed include a return to one of the franchise’s most popular universes.
