Mmmm chocolate jack-knifed tractor trailer

It was an unusual day’s work for emergency workers in Graboszewo, Poland, as they were called out not to clear flames, but chocolate.

A tank truck carrying 12 tons of liquid milk chocolate overturned in the early hours of the morning after colliding with a traffic barrier, causing waves of the sugary liquid to coat Poland’s A2 motorway between Wrzesnia and Slupca.

The incident has lead to a rather sticky situation as traffic came to a complete standstill. Police said earlier in the day it could be several hours before the road would be able to reopen.

According to the manufacturer, spilled chocolate is more difficult to remove than oil and needs to be shifted gradually using pressurized hot water. In some areas, the chocolate was so thick that heavy machinery was brought in to scoop up the mess.

The driver suffered a broken arm and was later taken to hospital. While no one else was injured during the incident, the troublesome substance did rob one local journalist of his shoe. Oh the humanity.
