Meghan Markle: Why Duchess of Sussex has to give up her favourite food for Prince Harry

Meghan Markle, 36, became a fully-fledged member of the royal family when she married Prince Harry, 33, on May 19 2018.

While she has gained a royal title as the Duchess of Sussex, she has also had to adhere to some strict protocol regarding her etiquette and royal fashion rules, such as wearing tights at all times.

It transpires Meghan will have had to give up her favourite food, which is seafood, upon becoming a royal.

This is all down to a royal dietary rule followed by central members of the royal family, where they do not eat seafood.

The royal family do this to avoid getting food poisoning, Royal Butler Grant Harrold explained.

“It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties,” he told Express.co.uk.

“We don’t want a member of the Royal family having a serious reaction to food poisoning, especially if she is on an overseas tour.”

Meghan previously told The New Potato magazine that her “ideal food day” would include seafood.

“A leisurely dinner of seafood and pasta, and a negroni to cap off the night,” Meghan previously told the publication in 2013 when asked about her favourite foods.

This isn’t the only food she will have to give up, however.

“As well as shellfish, it would also be quite appropriate for foods such as foie gras to be avoided,” Grant explained.

This was banned from the royal table by Prince Charles in 2008, according to The Telegraph.

The Prince of Wales has a policy that his chefs should not buy foie gras,” Andrew Farquharson, Deputy Master at Clarence House, told the publication.

The ban is allegedly because of a commitment to animal welfare, rather than for food hygiene reasons.

Yesterday, Meghan followed a number of Kate Middleton inspired style rules to accompany the Queen.

The newest member of the royals, who has been given the title of Duchess of Sussex, visited Cheshire today alongside the Queen.

Meghan followed a number of key style lessons from Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Having been married to Prince William since 2011, Kate is often held up as an example of royal style etiquette.

From her nude nails to her sleek, wavy blow dry, Meghan paid homage to Kate’s style cues throughout the years.

She also wore clear tights, smart stiletto heels and carried a clutch bag.
