Alex Jones was left on her own on The One Show today as the BBC programme opened with an empty spot to her right-hand side. It soon became clear her co-host Matt Baker had “self-isolated” and would be “working from home” as coronavirus fears and prevention measures continue to dominate conversation.
Alex opened The One Show in peculiar fashion as there was a clear gap to her right-hand side.
Trying to stay positive, Alex chimed: “Well hello, and welcome to your Tuesday’s One Show with me, Alex Jones,
“As you can see, look, the sofa is empty. No Matt Baker.
“Like so many of you, he’s working from home today.”
Moments later, Matt then appeared in the studio via video link to fill Alex and The One Show viewers in.
Speaking to Alex from his living room, Matt was joined by his pet dog.
He told Alex: “Yep, well, I’m at home, this is my Alex Jones tonight (his dog), this is Bob (laughs).
“This afternoon we had the phone call, there’s four of us here in our household, one of us has a cough,
“So that means we’re following the Prime Minister’s advice.”
Matt then added: “So yeah, we’re spending the next two weeks self-isolating.”
The Countryfile host remained in good spirits, however, as continued to converse with his co-host.
Matt said: “To be honest with you Al, we kind of expected this to come and feel as ready as we can do.
“(We’re) more than happy to do our bit and do what’s right for everybody and look out for our neighbours.
The One Show continues every weeknight at 7pm on BBC One.
