Martin Lewis: How to get cheaper easyJet flights during the summer holidays

Martin Lewis, 45, is out to help travellers get the cheapest flights this summer holiday.

Flights can often go up in price during peak season which can be during the half term and the summer holidays.

It can quickly make a trip abroad much more expensive as they can often be twice the price.

He explained on This Morning a cheeky trick can ensure the best deal when booking easyJet flights.

How can passengers get the best bargain? It is all about Flexifare tickets.

He explained: “School holiday flights are never that cheap. Yet there is a trick to try with Easyjet – no promises, but it’s worth a look.

“Its ‘Flexifares’ let you move the date of the flight after you’ve booked it, up to one week before the flight date and three weeks after at no extra cost.

“They are normally more expensive.

“Yet if you can get a Flexifare outside school holidays (they’re not always available), it can be cheaper than booking a standard flight within the holidays.”

“If you book the Flexifare for the cheaper date, then 24 hours after booking, switch it to the date you originally wanted at no extra charge.

“Of course there is a gamble the seats will get booked up in that time, so “I’d suggest checking there are at least 20 seats available on the date you want to fly (try getting a quote for that many seats) – that’s a pretty good chance.

“Since I first spotted this, it’s got harder to do. Yet I still managed to find a Nice to Gatwick flight that was £246 on Saturday 1 September, but could be had for £170 by booking a Flexifare for 5 September and switching it.”

It is worth also checking how much baggage can be taken on a flight to prevent additional costs.

easyJet passengers are able to take on cabin bag for free onboard, but this must include their personal bag as well, unlike other airlines.

Checked-in luggage must be paid for to put into the hold.

Flying Ryanair? Having hand luggage in the cabin is only valid for Priority Boarding passengers.

Normal passengers will see theirs taken at the airline gate and put in the hold for free.

A personal bag or handbag is allowed onboard for free as long as it fits underneath the seat in front.

British Airways passengers are allowed a personal bag and a cabin bag for free no matter what the fare is.

Their basic fares, however, do not include a checked-in bag and must be paid for.
