Mars chocolate RECALL: Galaxy bars and Malteser Teasers present THIS risk

A waning has been issued on Mars Chocolate UK’s and the Food Standards Agency’s websites, warning customers of the potential health risk. 

Products including Galaxy Milk 200gm bars, Minstrel 118gm pouches and Maltesers Teasers 35gm bars with best-before dates of 6 May 2018 and 13 May 2018 are affected.

Other products included in the recall include Galaxy Milk 4x42gm multipacks and Galaxy Counters 78gm and 112gm pouches with the 6 May 2018 and 13 May 2018 best-before dates.

According to the Food Standards Agency, the products listed might be contaminates with salmonella. 

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. 

Mars Chocolate UK has asked food retailers across the UK and Ireland to pull the affected products from shelves immediately. 

The affected products were made at the Mars’ factory in Slough. 

A Mars Chocolate UK spokesperson has written on its website: “Through our routine testing, we have detected the potential presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used to make our chocolate. 

“As a precaution, we are voluntarily recalling certain Galaxy Smooth Milk Chocolate bars, Galaxy Minstrels and Galaxy Counters and Teasers bars. 

“We are working closely with the relevant food safety authorities and our customers to ensure that the affected products are no longer available for purchase. If you have one of the products listed above, you should not eat it. 

“Please keep the product and contact our Consumer Care team to arrange return and reimbursement. 

“This precautionary recall has been initiated with the best interests of our consumers at heart and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“No other brands or varieties of chocolate, pack formats, bar sizes or best before dates are affected.” 

Mars said UK consumers can call 0800 952 0084 for reimbursement and Irish consumers can contact 1890 812 315. 

Aldi recalled one of its pale ales this week due to an undeclared ingredient which could pose a risk to people with a barley allergy. 

The budget supermarket warned customers who have a barley allergy and have purchased its Brasserie Gluten Free Organic Pale Ale due to its undeclared barley content.
