Mario Kart Tour isn’t a new Nintendo Switch games launch but a mobile title for everyone

While Nintendo have been against mobile games in the past, they now seem to be running headlong to embrace the new platform.

Another major franchise has been announced to be racing over to devices and it’s one that everyone will want to check out.

Mario Kart Tour is not a new Nintendo Switch game, but will instead be arriving on mobile devices next year.

The Japanese games giant announced it today, revealing that they hope to launch their new mobile game before the end of March, 2019.

Nintendo aren’t known for confirming titles early, but it appears something they’re more comfortable with when it comes to gaming on Android and iOS.

“The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near.

“A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.”

The wording suggests that they might be comfortable with an earlier launch if the game is ready, although other projects have seen delays.

Animal Crossing took a while to go from announcement to release, so fans might want to keep an eye out for news.

Unfortunately there have been no other details shared about Mario Kart Tour, so it’s unclear just what kind of gameplay we can expect to see.

However, while we don’t have much to go on right now, fans can at least look at how other Nintendo franchises have been ported over to the mobile gaming space.

The company have seen a mixed response to some of their latest titles, with Super Mario Run a highly downloaded game.

However, while it can be found on a lot of different devices, Super Mario Run, the paywall put in place by Nintendo led to a drop off in actual active player numbers.

In the game, Mario runs forward on his own, but relies on the tap of a single finger to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, pull off moves, collect coins and reach the flagpole to complete courses.

Nintendo will be hoping to avoid the same mistake with Mario Kart Tour, which could prove to include the more traditional, free-to-play model, like Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem on mobile.
