Norway is the safest country in the world, according to the 2018 Travel Risk Map.
The map data, produced by security specialists International SOS, finds Norway has the lowest security risk in Europe.
It is closely followed by its fellow Scandinavian countries.
These include, in order, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.
Other countries to make the top seven include Switzerland (5), a mountainous country in central Europe.
Following shortly behind are Slovenia (6) and Luxembourg (7).
To be included in this list means there is an “insignificant” risk of security threats there.
This is the lowest risk level possible.
The rest of Europe didn’t perform badly either.
Much of the rest of the continent has a “low” risk rating, including the UK and France.
However, some – like Ukraine – have a “medium” rating, while areas of Turkey were given a “high” rating.
Some areas of eastern Ukraine have a high “extreme” rating, based on the continued conflict there.
In addition to performing well on the security risk rankings, Scandinavian countries scored well for the other factors assessed by International SOS.
These included medical and road safety.
The Scandinavian countries had a “very low” risk of road traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, European countries Italy, Belgium and Portugal have a slightly high resk, at “low”.
